The content of Trade in Early Modern London has been selected in close collaboration with academic subject experts, collections specialists at participating archives, and under the guidance of the Editorial Board.

Selection has focused on the following key record types from each of the contributing company archives from the earliest surviving documents up to approximately 1750.

Constitutional Records
Ordinances, memoranda books and charters.

Court Records
Court Minute Books, Rough Court Minutes Books, and Indexes.

Financial Records
Wardens’ Accounts, Renter Wardens’ Accounts, Cash Books and Debt Books.

 

The Documents List is automatically sorted by date with the earliest appearing at the top. For quick reference these are the documents that pre-date 1450:

 

A note on exclusions 

Where exclusions have been made, this is largely due to:

  • Collections falling outside the defined remit of this resource
  • Fragile condition of material due to age
  • Existing open-access content
